Hotel Philippine Plaza ’06

Once again, our family stayed at the Hotel Philippine Plaza last April 28-May 1. Almost every year we are in this hotel therefore I can say that I’m at home here. Formerly known as Westin Philippine Plaza but Westin left and by next year, this will be managed by the Sofitel. A couple of weeks before we’ve been to Philippine Plaza, we stayed at the Renaissance Makati City Hotel. Staying there is also good but Philippine Plaza has a better view from the balcony especially at the pool area because it is next to Manila Bay. My uncle who once worked in an insurance company said that the resort of the hotel was devastated by flood long time ago that made them pay 250 million pesos! Also, rooms in Philippine Plaza have balcony for you to have a closer look of the view (the image shows how the view looks like standing by the balcony). But sad to say, our room this year is facing the parking lot of the hotel. My father said it has additional P500 to get a room facing the resort area. I don’t know if this is because of the new management or because we are staying here for three nights thus my father need not to bother on choosing rooms. Still we were lucky enough to see the convoy of President GMA passing the parking lot. She attended an affair at the hotel and the place was just right beside the parking area. The next morning while having breakfast in the hotel, I’ve seen DOJ secretary Gonzales in the dining area. I’m not sure if his stay has something to do with the event that the president was involved. Aside from the sumptuous breakfast the hotel had, I also enjoyed the cute girls dining as well. There’s a beautiful Korean too. By the way, their dining area is now called “Spiral”. As  I observed, it really looks like spiral including its steps.

Our stay in the hotel is very important. We were able to got to malls, dine to various restaurants, and visit different places of Manila. We were able to maximize the short stay of my father here in the Philippines. I was able to invite my long lost friends who are now in Manila to go bar hopping and swim in the hotel pool. By next year, maybe we’ll be staying in this hotel once again.
